Hudson River Swim


5th Annual River Swim

The Swim is a wonderful opportunity for experienced swimmers to swim about one mile (72 lengths of a standard 25 yard pool) across the Hudson River while raising funds to benefit the non-profit volunteer organization River Pool at Beacon.


We will start at The Newburgh Waterfront and finish at The Beacon Waterfront.


The 5th annual benefit swim from Newburgh to Beacon across the Hudson River is scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd.


The recommended safety meeting for kayakers is
Thursday, July 24th at 7:00 at The Beacon Institute, 211 Main St in Beacon.

Check-in is 7:00 – 9:00 for a 9:30 splash-off.

Please note that advance registration is required by July 21st. We will be unable to accommodate walk-ups at check-in on August 3rd . We will close registration when we reach our limit of 250 swimmers or by July 21—whichever comes first.

Please also note our policy for kids under 18. We will ask that all minors sign a waiver; that all minors have a parent or guardian sign a waiver; that all swimmers aged 13 – 17 present a certification of ability signed by a coach or athletic director; and that all swimmers aged 10 – 12 present a certification of ability signed by a coach or athletic director AND come to the swim with an adult swimmer escort. (If two repeat swimmers wish to use a single escort, they may be allowed to do so at the discretion of the registrar.)

We cannot register any swimmers under the age of 10.

The registration fee is $40 for adults, $25 for kids under 18.

We also ask that all swimmers raise a minimum of $100 in sponsorship fees.

All swimmers will have their own donation page at Active.com where sponsors can make their contributions.

Check-in is 7:00am – 9:00am on Sunday, August 3rd.

A Safety Orientation will be at approx 9:00am. Splash off is at 9:30.

We will have a permit from the US Coast Guard to cross the River that day. The Coast Auxiliary Flotilla along with other boats and kayakers will be on hand to escort and help keep swimmers safe.

Kayakers who are interested in being a kayak "escort" please register in advance on-line through Active.com. Kayakers are requested to attend a one hour safety class at the Beacon Institute (199 Main St. Beacon). The date and time of the safety class will be announced. Check-in for kayakers will be at the Beacon waterfront across from the Beacon train station on Sunday, August 3rd from 7:15am -8:00am, followed by the crossing over to Newburgh and an in-water safety demonstration.
Swimmers will cross the river from 9:30am until about 11:00am.

All swimmers:

  • Please register on line through Active.com by July 21th for the August 3rd swim.
  • Practice and train for the swim now!
  • The water temperature is expected to be between 75 and 80 degrees, so it should be a pleasant crossing.
  • We will swim from the shores of Newburgh off the docks of Torches restaurant.
  • We will provide food and water on the Beacon side.
  • If you are coming from NYC there is a Hudson line train leaving Grand Central Station arriving at 8:05am in Beacon.
  • If you have friends and family dropping you off--they can watch the splash in and then drive across the bridge to Beacon to watch you come out of the water.
  • Don't forget to bring a towel!

Pledge money can be sent in any of three ways:

  • On Line – When you register at Active.com, a donation page will be set up in your name. Sponsors can go to your page at any time to make a donation using a credit card.
  • Checks made out to River Pool At Beacon and indicating the sponsored swimmer's name can be mailed to River Pool At Beacon, PO Box 173, Beacon, NY 12508
  • Bring sponsor contributions to Check-In on August 3rd.

The River Pool is at a very exciting stage – We are a 501c3 tax exempt organization, have federal and state permits in place, and the prototype floating pool has been constructed and will be open to the public this summer. Our collected dollars are making a difference. Thanks for your dedication!
